The Legacy of Weed Day

Updated: Jul 19, 2022

The Event That Started It All...

"Weed Day" was created and hosted for over 50 years (starting in the 1940's) by Frances Morgan and Clara Myers of rural Monroe County, MO. It was a much-anticipated day of crafting and creating dried floral arrangements, wreaths, signs, and much more. In its heyday, over 150 women gathered from all over for this single-day event that was always held on the Morgan or Myers farm!

In memory of Frances and Clara, we're now bringing folks back together again to create, share, laugh, and enjoy each others' company. After starting small in 2020, our 2021 event was a smashing success! See pictures above.

The idea behind Weed Day is simple and beautiful: bring your friends and any dried/preserved weeds, flowers, leaves, grapevine wreaths, etc., that you can find, collect, and preserve throughout the summer. (There will be some extra materials available that day, though we do highly encourage everyone to bring what they can to share.) We'll craft through the morning, take a break for a potluck lunch, and then head home when we're done/tired/ready.

This in-person event includes a workshop/one-on-one instruction filled with tips for collecting, drying, preserving, arranging, and crafting with natural materials.

Personal Note from Kristen: Weeds & Wildflowers really began when I attended Weed Day with my grandmother when I was about 6 years old. I fell in love with the variety and quirky beauty that Momma Nature has to offer us if we just look for it, sometimes in the most common of places. Weeds and wildflowers inspire my creativity, they bring back memories, and they make me feel like I'm home. I hope with W&W, we can do the same for you!
